How the very youngest listen
A child under two understands far more than they can say. They recognise faces, voices and rhythms, and they like hearing the same thing many times. That is why the books for ages 0–2 have short sentences that repeat, sounds to copy and pages where one thing happens at a time. Seeing their own face, or mum's or big sister's, makes the child point, laugh and want to read again. The text is also set in a larger size, so that it can be seen even when you read together in bed.
Tips for the first book
Choose an everyday theme, such as a bedtime story or the farm, and let the family be in it. Browse the examples to choose a style with soft colours.
